Pewter metal tiles was the craft activity for our 12th WOYU+ pack in lockdown, and so, it was great to welcome back mixed media artist Mel Berman from Metallix to create this pack for us.

This pack gave participants the opportunity to make and paint their own tile which we will eventually install together with the other tiles to create a piece of public art that will go on display in Hay Mills. The designs on the tiles are inspired by cross sections of wire cables made by Webster and Horsfal in Hay Mills.

You can find out more about Mel and her workshops in her studio at Birmingham’s Old Print Works by visiting: https://www.artmetallix.com

Woman of Yardley Unite! (WOYU+) is a women’s empowerment programme, a series of free creative sessions led by different professional artists. We use creativity to develop skills, build confidence and form friendships. With delivery of our face-to-face sessions having to go on hold during Covid-19, we adapted WOYU+ to support our participants in new ways. And so we began to deliver a monthly craft pack direct to participants’ homes with interactive videos to teach and inspire our ladies.
